HVAC Technician

SUMMARY:  Work with an E&I Master Craftsman and HVAC Technician while developing skills required for repairing and maintaining plant equipment for a world-class pulp and paper manufacturing facility mill.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Example duties could include, but are not limited to:

o    Service, repair, install, and calibrate all types of HVAC Equipment while keeping units in good operating condition.  

o    Recover Freon from HVAC Systems and complete a Freon Recovery Form.

o    Operate a variety of hand and power tools.

o    Troubleshoot and repair AC & DC circuits and control equipment on single phase and three phase electrical systems.

o    Troubleshoot various input & final control elements on instrument control loops (discrete and continuous devices) including pressure, temperature, and flow measurement devices.  

o    Understand operation of control loops, including an understanding of PLC’s. 

o    Perform Preventive Maintenance. 



SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

    Associate degree in HVAC or related field preferred. 

    Minimum of (5) years related industry experience with a stable work history. 

    Ability to operate electrical and HVAC testing/measuring instruments.  

    Ability to read advanced wiring diagrams and multi-meters.

    Knowledge of refrigeration recovery, evacuation, and charging. 

    Knowledge of the heating cycle and all the necessary components. 

    Fundamental understanding of temperature and humidity measurement and control in air conditioning units. 

    Must have functional knowledge of basic computer systems (i.e. Microsoft Office products)

    Ability to pass a drug test and background check.  

    Ability to organize work and meet deadlines. 

    Ability to work a rotating shift schedule with overtime work when needed. 

    Good verbal and written communication skills.

    Comfortable working in a Union environment.

    The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.



WORK ENVIRONMENT  

    The noise level in the work environment can be loud at times. 

    Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts. 

    May be exposed to wet and/or hot and humid conditions. 

    Occasionally exposed to precarious places, fumes or airborne particles and vibrations. 



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    EPA Universal Certification Freon license.
